The traditional Mayor’s Annual Knockout Inter-Ward football fiesta kicks off on Friday 23rd March with an exciting double header at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground from 6:30pm.
As all systems are in place for the annual tournament, the organizer is still hoping for a few more sponsors to assist in offsetting the expenses of hosting the event as the preliminary games get underway. However, Coordinator Lennox Arthur noted that a few sponsors have come forward to help and he is very grateful and is looking forward to the others to come forward.
Tiger-Bay and Wales will open the curtains in the double header for Mayor’s Inter Ward Football tournament, while West Ruimveldt and Stewartville (8:30pm) will close the curtains on opening day as they both try to draw first blood.
Tiger-Bay’s Shemroy Arthur and Solomon Austin will spearhead their team as Dwayne Ali and Sherman David will be the forefront players for West Ruimveldt as fans are promised exciting football featuring the established and fringe players.
At stake for the top four teams are respective $500,000, $250,000, $150,000 and $100,000.
The tournament continues on Saturday 24 with three matches from 4:30 pm at the same venue. The first game will be contested between Alberttown and South Sophia; the second will see North Sophia and Charlestown battling as Campbellville and Kitty clash in the third game.
On Sunday (March 25) afternoon Alexander Village and Grove will meet at 4:30pm, West Ruimveldt Estate will play Mocha at 6:30pm, while North East La Penitence and Kuru Kururu will collide at 8:30pm.
On Wednesday 28 March, Worthmanville will spar with Den Amstel at 6:30pm. Kingston and Pouderoyen will close the preliminary round in the tournament.
The final is slated for April 13.
