One of the gunmen who allegedly broke into the home of Deputy Mayor, Patricia Chase-Green, yesterday appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court and to the surprise of many; he was wearing a pair of slippers stolen from his victim.
Twenty-three-year-old, Shem Tyndall of Tucville, originally of Lancaster Village, Berbice, stood before Magistrate Allan Wilson charged with armed robbery. But as the proceedings carried on, Chase-Greene who was in court noticed that the alleged crook was wearing her brand name Clarks’ slippers.
Stunned and slightly upset, she immediately informed ranks of what she saw and Tyndall was ordered to take off the woman’s footwear. The slipper was collected and will be used as evidence against him.
Tyndall was arraigned on three charges for the robbery which took place on Saturday. It was alleged that he and others were armed with guns and during a home invasion, robbed Chase-Green of a quantity of jewelry, cash and electronics all worth $756,000.
On the same day, he allegedly robbed Abiola Waterman of two cellular phones, jewelry and cash totaling $260,000. And again on the same date, Tyndall unlawfully and maliciously wounded Terrence Greene. He pleaded not guilty to the wounding charge but was not required to plead to the armed robberies.
The prosecution objected to bail on the prevalence and seriousness of the offence. The police also felt that if Tyndall was given pre-trial liberty he would not return to answer the matter.
The defendant was remanded to jail and is expected to make another appearance in Court Two.
According to reports, the Deputy Mayor of Georgetown was at home around 02:30 hours with her husband Terrence Greene and their two grandsons when three armed men entered their home demanding cash and jewelry.
The husband was reportedly lashed in the face which caused him to receive stitches from the hospital. The couple’s home was ransacked and the suspects reportedly made off with Green’s wedding band, two other gold rings, three cellular phones, a flat screen television set and a play station game system.
The police said that the television set and some other articles were recovered in the defendant’s possession.
