Scrabble players will once more match wits when the Guyana Association of Scrabble Players
(GASP) stages the Insurance Brokers open tournament sponsored by Insurance Brokers Guyana Ltd, at the Malteenoes Sports Club, Thomas lands.
The top three finishers will receive beautiful trophies and as is done of recent, the top player outside of the top ten rankings would also receive a trophy. Recently, Grace Hercules has distinguished herself among the low tiered players and has twice carted off the spoils allotted for the best player outside of the top ten ratings.
This was not to be in the GASP Open, contested some three weeks ago, when Maurice Munro carted off this special prize. This award is a special one meant to lift the standards of those players outside the top 10 ratings and already the ploy is reaping dividends as witnessed by the strenuous efforts of that category of players and their improved level of play.
Otherwise, the competition would be intense with such players as National Champion, Abigail McDonald, Moen Gafoor, James Krakowsky and the Michaels, Orlando and Rudolph, battling for the prime prize.
As usual, the players would convene at 09:30hrs for the registration period up to 10:00hrs when the tournament is scheduled to get underway. Players are asked to arrive early as their clocks would be started at 10:00hrs sharp. The registration fee remains at $500 per player.
