Family refutes report that Perseverance accident victim was drunk
Confusion surrounds the death of a 50-year-old Mahaicony man who was struck down in an accident on Cottage public road around 10:25am last Sunday.
Dead is Rabindranauth Ramlingam of Perseverance, Mahaicony.
Ramlingam was reportedly hit and flung into the air by a white car, PGG 751, said to be speeding. The driver and the vehicle are in police custody.
On Monday, Ramlingam’s daughter, Sabrine, said that her father left home sometime after 10:00 am to drop pepper for his friend who resides in the opposite direction of where the accident occurred. She said that eyewitnesses informed her that he had crossed the road and was riding “east on the Cottage public road when the car came from behind and hit him off the bicycle.”
Police, however, said that Ramlingam was drunk and after crossing the public road, he collided with the car which was heading in an easterly direction of the same road.
They have also said that there are marks at the side of the car which clearly indicates that the 50-year-old collided with the car. Eyewitnesses also indicated that the driver “was not in the wrong”.
Relatives, however, refused to accept that the 50-year-old was drunk and might have caused his own death. After the collision, the 50-year-old was taken to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital and was eventually transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
