In an effort to improve customer service, the Guyana Tourism Authority
(GTA) recently organized a training session for staffers of Air Services Limited (ASL) to enhance their related skills.
This is part of ongoing training programmes being conducted by the Ministry of Tourism and GTA in an effort to improve the quality of service delivered in the tourism and hospitality industry.
Forty-six (46) employees have already participated in sessions over the last two weeks in ASL’s Training Room, at the Ogle International Airport, East Coast Demerara, while the last training session will be conducted next Wednesday – making it a total of 59 employees trained.
Security Officers, Loaders, Flight Operations Officers, Reservation Officers, Receptionists, Bonds Clerks and Radio Operators participated in the training, which will enable them to become more hospitable and welcoming to those whom they come into contact with on a daily basis.
Training is being done by the Director of GTA, Mr. Indranauth Haralsingh and Lecturer, Tourism Unit of the University of Guyana, Ms. Tameca Sukhdeo-Singh.
During the sessions, participants were taught basic rules of service such as how to meet and greet customers and ground rules in providing quality customer service, and they were also provided with an opportunity to share their views and experiences about customer service. The sessions touched on various areas such as how important customers are to the business, basics of customer service, and effective communication, like how to greet customers and some ground rules in providing quality customer service, which would help them to become more welcoming and hospitable to customers.
