Responding to Ray Alexander

I wish to comment on Ray Alexander’s letter which was published in Kaieteur News, specifically to his/her comment “….It is clear that Norman Mc Lean, Joe Singh, and Mike Antherley should never have been elevated to the rank of Major General.”
At the time those Guyanese were Chiefs-of-Staff, the combined number under command could have easily exceeded 15,000 personnel right here in Guyana if the need arose. The possibility of foreign incursion and/or national disaster justified the command structure to be readily available in the national interest.
When one combines the numbers in the GDF, the GNS and the first line reservists, the GPM—every citizen a soldier –as well as the higher level of commitment and patriotism which existed at the time, the colonel/brigadier/major general would have been justifiably tasked in all Regions, NDCs, villages and locations everywhere possible. As a patriot and reservist, I would have been tasked in a capacity befitting my capability.
The Commander-in-Chief whoever he/she was at the time would not have had time to provide foreign embassies with any form of light entertainment. Ray Alexander may not be aware of the tasks the Commander-in-Chief and the Chief of Staff have at their combined disposal to manage human and material resources should a conflict arise in Guyana.
