James Krakowsky carts off GASP Youman Nabi Open championships

James Krakowsky continued in his rich vein of form and following his recent victory in the inaugural GASP Open Championships at the Bank of Guyana Sports Club less than three weeks ago with a decisive victory from a field of competent players when the Guyana Association of Scrabble Players (GASP) staged the Youman Nabi Open championships at the Malteenoes Sports Club Thomas lands, Sunday afternoon last.
The prolific word former amassed an impeccable 6 points and a positive spread of 307 to walk away with the top prize in front of national champion, Abigail McDonald who had to settle for second place after registering 5 points and a positive spread of 364. Ewart Adams made a grand return to the podium with 4 points and a positive spread of 201 which guaranteed him the third place spot.
In all, 14 players participated in the tournament and Lindener, Grace Hercules returned to the limelight with an eventual score of 4 points and a positive spread of 120. She finished in the fourth place and was awarded a special prize for securing the best placing for players that are rated outside of the top 10. The ever improving Delon Moffat also copped a special prize, this time for forming the most bingos in the tournament (15).
The players convene once again on February 19 for the next tournament which will be in the open category. Meanwhile, activities will continue with practice sessions at the Malteenoes Sports Club, Thomas lands on Thursday evenings.
