Bishoo, Permaul spin Guyana to first innings points as they hunt opening round victory
Led by Sportsman of the year Devendra Bishoo with 4-39 and Veerasammy Permaul with 3-19 Guyana
seized first innings points at tea on the second day of the WICB Regional Four-Day Championship match at Windsor Park in Dominica.
Leewards, replying to Guyana’s 208 all out, were dismissed for 98 in the first innings. Guyana had resumed from their overnight 162/4 at stumps to be dismissed for 208. In Guyana’s innings Leon Johnson led with 52 and got support from Narsingh Deonarine 49 and Chris Barnwell 22. Gavin Tonge was the pick of the Leewards bowling with 5-53, Anthony Martin 2-44 and Justin Athanaze 2-58.
For the Leewards only Kieran Powell with 37 made any useful contribution with the bat as Bishoo and Permaul spun webs.
Batting a second time Guyana, leading Leeward Islands by 110 on first innings, reached 86-6 in their second innings at the close on the Day 2 in a spot of bother but with a lead of 194. Chris Barnwell has made 24 so far as Nelson Bolan picked up 3-24 for the Leewards.
Following their first inning performance Guyana will be hopeful that they can dismiss them again for another below par score and record a win. At the wicket are Fudadin on 15 and Bishoo yes to score. Both are no ‘chickens’ with the bat and will look to add useful runs today.
Meanwhile, estranged West Indies opener Chris Gayle sent perhaps his strongest message yet to the West Indies Cricket Board ahead of the upcoming Australia series as he pillaged a belligerent 165 as Jamaica leading Windward Islands by 21 on first innings, were 262 for seven in their second innings at the close on the second day of their first round Regional Four-Day cricket match in Jamaica. That represents a lead of 283.
The Windwards were dismissed for 159 replying to Jamaica’s 180. At the wicket for Jamaica were Andre Russell 23* and Nikita Miller 0*. Gayle got support from Tamar Lambert 15 and Brendan Nash 14.
In the other match Combined Campuses vs T&T – game saw T&T scoring 229 and dismissing the CCC team for 111. Kieron Pollard top scored with 60. Austin led CCC bowling with 7-83. Sunil Narine took 5-11 for T&T. Batting a second time T&T were 19-2.
