Woolford Avenue and East Georgetown powerhouse, Tutorial High School will be attending their first ever international relay fair in Bridgetown at the Ninth Edition of the Barbados Relay Fair on February 11, at the Barbados National Stadium, Waterford, St. Michael.
Speaking with Kirk Moses, Team Manager of the team, Kaieteur Sport was made to understand that a total of forty-five students will be participating in the Relay Fair in different categories.
Moses said that he took advantage of the situation since last year when the53rd National Schools’ Championship was held at the Guyana National Stadium to combine a robust school team for the Relay Fair, “I was thinking ahead and I thought I should have took that opportunity to gather some of the athletes for the competition”, he said.
He added that most of the athletes were selected since the Tutorial High School Inter-house and also the East Georgetown Inter-School sports last year.
Asking Moses about the athletes’ preparation for the Relay Fair he said that they have been training since last year under the watchful eyes of Running Brave Athletic Club Coach; the team should be in pre-competition training and should be focusing on their baton passing.
Revealing the six teams to this publication, Moses said that they well be going out like a mighty army to duplicate Queens College outstanding performances last year and hopes to win the championship over all.
“I think that we will be successful at the games and hopes to copy what Queens College did last year at the Relay Fair.” Giving a flash back of Queens College performances at the Games, the School was able to cop one gold medal along with two silver and bronze medals; the team over-all ranking at the games was 6th (boys) and 9th (girls) place.
Kaieteur sport was also made to understand that Queens College will no longer be a part of the Games.
Moses hopes that his school will be attending the Games on a yearly basis as the years go by.
Tutorial High School is expected to depart Guyana on February 10 while the University of Guyana (UG) will be leaving on the 9th to return on Sunday 12.
Team Managers for Tutorial High are Andel Bethune and Kirk Moses; the team will also be accompanied by other teachers of the school.  (Juanita Hooper)
