It is the talk of the town among the young and upcoming karters that is the Guyana Motor
Racing & Sports Club season opening Fun-Day set for January 29, at the club’s Headquarters on Albert Street.
Kaieteur Sport caught up with the group of drivers who will be competing in the day’s activities and they all disclosed that everyone is eager, excited and rearing to go.
Alex Powers, who was designated as their spokesperson told this newspaper that despite the absence of organised karting activity for some months, the mood among the drivers is positive and one of eager anticipation to put it all on the track after honing their skills for some period now.
“We are all talking about it and are all terribly excited to get in the karts and provide some thrills for the anticipated crowd that is expected,” Powers said.
He added that the track is open to anyone and they’ve been able to get in some valuable seat time in preparation for race day.
Asked whether they would like to go on and make motor racing a career, Powers replied by saying that karting is just the start where you learn the finer art of racing such as dexterity, eye, hand and feet co-ordination and simply mastering the complicated mechanics of driving.
He stated that it is the preferred route to take since most of the top drivers in the world has gone that way and many of them have gone on to become world champions and serious contenders for the title.
The club Powers said has always encouraged them to hone their skills on a facility that is
conducive for their ambitions and they are really appreciative of the efforts made to accommodate them.
Apart from the boys, the girls he reminded will also be very competitive and promised that they will be a force to reckon with.
Kaieteur Sport will take a look at the young brigade in a subsequent issue.
