– modern Soft Drink Plant to be commissioned soon
A new line of XM rums and malt products will be introduced by beverage giant Banks DIH this year, according to Chairman Clifford Reis.
“The new year (2012) will see the introduction of a 12oz Soft Drink package, launch of Malta Supreme, Vita Malt Plus and the new family of XM Rums, including 7, 10, 12 and 15 years aged Rums,” the Chairman said in his annual report.
In addition, Reis said that there will be upgrades to the brewery, rum factory, water plant, dairy plant, and the existing soft drink plant as well as the installation of a new generator for the power generator plant. The construction and development of an additional water well is also in progress.
According to the chairman, the acquisition of a major plant and machinery during the year as part of the company’s ongoing modernisation programme enabled the efficient conversion of raw materials into food and beverage products, thereby contributing to the improved performance.
“This is evidenced in the acquisition and installation of a low pressure filler and filtration column for the rum factory, and a filling system for five and three gallon sizes of water for the water plant. An electronic bottle inspector, beer chiller cooling system, and a checkmat system were installed in the beer bottling plant. Additionally, a CO2 plant and blow moulding machinery were installed.”
Other upgrades were done to the ice-cream plant, the brewery, dairy plant and the soft drink plant, while new vehicles were obtained, along with additional lift trucks. A wastewater treatment plant that satisfies a contractual agreement with the Coca Cola Company and ensures that the operations are in accordance with environmental stipulations were also set up.
The chairman’s report added that a modern Krones Soft Drink Plant has been acquired and installed, and is expected to be commissioned soon. There are plans to increase capital expenditure this financial year, and on the list of things to be acquired are additional vehicles, a new malt handling system, fermenters, a wort kettle, a reverse osmosis water system, and a pasteuriser for the beer plant. The modernisation of the No 1 Bar at Demico House, which will be renamed ‘Stabroek Sports Bar, as well as additional building projects, will also be undertaken.
