CONCACAF Under-20 Women’s Championship – Cuba
After taking the lead through an Ashlee Savona 20th minute goal, Guyana’s Lady Jags eventually lost their second game in the CONCACAF Under-20 Women’s Championship to T&T Soca Princesses 2-1 at the Estadio Pedro Marrero Ciudad de La Habana, Cuba on Monday.
Having lost their opening encounter to host nation Cuba 1-5 on Saturday, the Guyanese lasses were aiming for a win against the Trinis; battled well but not well enough in the end.
Savona, who also scored the lone goal in the Cuba encounter, was again on target giving Guyana the early advantage which they were not able to hold onto despite holding the advantage for quite some time.
Khadidra Debesette drew Trinidad level in the 56th minute and up to that point it was an even encounter. Guyana were placed under pressure when Leah Marie Ramalho was booked for the second time in the game (58 & 68) and her dismissal proved to be costly for the Jags.
Debesette completed her double and the win for T&T in the 85th minute, the loss effectively ending the Lady Jags’ hope of qualifying for the CONCACAF finals.
In the other group game, Cuba were held to a 1-1 draw after scoring first against Puerto Rico.
The final group matches will be played today with Guyana facing Puerto Rico from 10:00hrs; Cuba will come against T&T from 15:00hrs.
The battle for the top place will be between Cuba and Puerto Rico who are both on 4 points each with T&T on 3 and Guyana 0.
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
