– Held discussions with GCB yesterday
WICB President Dr, Julian Hunte arrived in Guyana yesterday to conduct discussions with Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) and officials of the Government pertaining to the ongoing impasse that had erupted between the two parties following an attempt by the Ministry of Sport to set up an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to challenge the legitimacy of the Board.
The dispute that followed nearly threatened Guyana’s participation in the Regional T20 Competition, before the WICB stepped in to announce that it would only recognise the GCB thereby rendering the IMC’s move to usurp the role of the local governing body in contravention of the ICC’s mandate which disallows Governments intervention in the running of the game in countries affiliated to the world body.
The WICB Head met with executives of the GCB and engaged them in closed door discussions at the Pegasus Hotel, while he is scheduled to do the same with the Government today.
The 15-member IMC which is being led by former West Indies Captain Clive Lloyd was formed in December by the Ministry of Sport to run the affairs of local cricket, but was rejected in favour of the GCB by the regional governing body despite pleas by the Government for CARICOM to intervene.
When contacted last evening, Secretary of the Board Anand Sanasie, told this newspaper that no details of the meeting was available as yet, while a photo op was also ruled out.
