The Norton family of Pike Street, Kitty, Georgetown was the beneficiary of an eight-week environmental programme by the students of the University of Guyana (UG). The programme started in September and concluded in November.
According to one of the students, every year the students from the Environmental and Social Work Department of UG participate in community service. This year, emphasis was placed on the Norton family.
The Norton family comprises a father and his son, who lived in poverty all their life. The aim of the eight-week project is to remove the family from that state and “to push them” into having a better life.
The students also assisted in getting the child linked to afternoon classes in order to enhance his studies.
