Sans Souci defeated Good Success by 26 runs in the final of the Thakur Lokram\ Wakenaam Cricket Club (WCC) t\20 competition last Sunday at the Wakenaam community center ground.
Sans Souci won the toss and elected to bat first on a two-paced track and quickly found themselves in trouble losing the wickets of Varounie Sasepaul who was run out for 2. Tulsieram Ramadeen (0), Satnarine Sahadeo (0) and Vickram Ramnarine(07) also fell quickly to leave the score at 22-4.
Wayne Osborne (15) and Heera Sukram (24) then took the score to 57 before Osborne who hit one six and one four, was caught at the wicket off medium pacer Wazir Khan.
Essequibo Under-19 player Seon Venture then slammed two sixes in a breezy 16 before he was bowled by medium pacer Lokram Narine. Jitendra Persaud was the only other batsman to offer resistance by hitting two fours and a six in 20 as Sans Souci were bowled out in 18.3 overs for 92.
Narine ended with 3-13, while Khan and Chandreka Ragnauth took wickets each. Good Success in their turn at the crease never really threatened the total and lost wickets at regular intervals.
Abdool Salim top scored with 20 while Jaggernauth Manbodh (12) and Iftikar Mohamed (10) were the only other batsmen that reached double figures as their team were skittled out for 66 in 19.5 overs.
Off-spinner Gurnauth Khemraj and Satnarine Sahadeo bagged three wickets apiece while Osborne grabbed 2-10. Heera Sukram was given the award for the Man-of-the Match and scoring the most runs in the final, while Lokram Narine received the prize for the most outstanding bowler in the game.
Sans Souci collected the first place trophy and Good Success the runner up prize. Speaking at the presentation ceremony sponsor of the competition Thakur Lokram congratulated the winning team and thanked the others for participating. He said he will continue to support the game on the Essequibo Island where Ramnaresh Sarwan, one of only two Essequibians to play Test cricket, was born.
Chairman of the Wakenaam Cricket Committee Sheik Ahmad thanked the sponsor and congratulated the winning team.
