Regardless of any weather conditions, the Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA) organized, Bakewell nationwide softball finals, will take place on Sunday at the Ministry of Education ground, formerly Softball Ground, on Carifesta Avenue. Starting from 9:00am, admission is $200.
Three finals will be played. The first will see Regal Seniors vs Floodlights in the Over-40 yrs category. Regal Seniors just fresh from winning the Guyana Softball Masters Cup, comprises of many reputable softball players which include Troy Kippins, Lance Adams, Jagga Bhoj, Anil Hardyal, Amarnauth Boodhoo, etc.
Floodlights will be led by Dharam Persaud have Wayne Jones, Ricky Deonarine, Richard Persaud, Lalta Gainda and Imtiaz Mohamed. They will have to pull out the stops to halt Regal Seniors.
The second final will pit Herstelling against Regal in the Male Open category. Both teams also have some of the country’s top softball players, such as Richard Latiff, Samuel Kingston, Saheed Gittins, Raymond Harper, Yunos Mohamed, Vivian Bissoon, Dennis Muir and Shafeek Ishmail. The third final will be the “War of the Roses” with Mike’s Wellwoman vs Trophy Stall Angels. Both teams have several national cricketers, including Joan Van Sertima, June Ogle, Abeina Parker, Onika Wallerson, Kavita Yadram, Akaza Thompson and Latoya Smith.
All winners will take away a trophy with $75,000. Runner-up claims a trophy and $25,000. Player of the Match and Series will each receive a trophy and $10,000.
This Softball Tournament commenced on August 28 and is sponsored exclusively by bakery giant Bakewell.
