Forty-seven year-old Selall Parbu was yesterday remanded after an appearance at the Sparendaam
Magistrate’s for manslaughter.
Parbu shot his cousin, 23-year-old Permaul Rampersaud. Parbu who was a security guard attached to a popular night club was represented by attorney at law Rexford Jackson.
In making a bail application Jackson told the court that the incident was an accident and that the deceased was a close relative of the accused.
However bail was objected to by the prosecutor who told the court that the nature of the crime is a serious one.
Parbu is expected to make his next court appearance on December 8th.
Relatives of both the deceased and the accused turned up at the court to offer their support as the family maintained that the incident was an accident.
Meanwhile, Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh yesterday said that Permaul Rampersaud died as a result of perforation of the aorta vessel and lungs due to gunshot injury.
The findings followed a post mortem examination, yesterday.
Permaul Rampersaud and others, including a licensed firearm holder, were in a motor car on Lusignan Public Road, East Coast Demerara, on Sunday, when the firearm holder discharged two rounds that struck Permaul Rampersaud.
