Outstanding racers collect prizes at glitzy ceremony

Riding high on the wave of hosting a successful Race Meet, Organisers

Part of the large gathering that attended the glitzy presentation ceremony on Monday to reward outstanding competitors who participated in the final leg of the CMRC Series which was held at the South Dakota Circuit.

of the GT&T / Seaboard Marine Caribbean Motor Racing Championship, the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club produced another stunning showpiece during the presentation ceremony which was conducted on Monday evening at the club’s Headquarters.
Held in a glitzy setting, before a packed audience, outstanding performers at the final leg of the Caribbean Series were presented with their prizes, while Barbados copped the overall country title.
In addition to grabbing the overall title, Barbados drivers Roger Mayers, who took home the CMRC individual crown and Kenrick ‘Snappa’ Husbands along with Guyana’s Super bike champion Stephen ‘Valentino Rossi’ Vieira, Carey Griffith (Super bike Rookies), Roshan Ali (Rookies cars), Jad Rahaman (Group 2A), Ryan Rahaman (Group 4), Kem Lall (Group 3), Charles Henry (125cc), Nikihil Seereeram (Shifter karts) and Suriname’s Oliver Tjin-Lip-Shie (Group 2B), all dominated the prizes.
Among the notable personalities who were present at the occasion included representatives of sponsors, Presidents of the three major countries Guyana, Barbados and Jamaica, who delivered messages on behalf of their respective countries, while Seaboard Marine Vice-President for the Caribbean Division Stephen Bell delivered a very important address, promising the Company’s future support for the sport.
President of the GMR&SC Johnny Carpenter in his remarks thanked all the sponsors for coming on board, the fans and importantly the media, who he lauded for helping to promote the event and most of all the hard working Race Committee that toiled tirelessly to make the Meet the success it was.

The winning Barbados team that captured the CMRC Country title at the conclusion of the final leg on Sunday.

There were also prizes for other individuals related to making the sport what it is and they included the mechanics that were recognized for ensuring that all the machines were kept in optimum working order so that the fans could be truly entertained.
Jamaica’s Doug ‘Hollywood’ Gore, who drives an Audi DTM car, was given a plaque for setting the fastest lap time ever recorded even though it was announced that it will not be classified as the official record which belongs to Roger Mayers.
All the competitors and executives of Caribbean motor racing vowed to make the sport even larger come next year.

Barbadian Roger Mayers became the first driver from the island to cop the coveted Caribbean title.
