The Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) tarmac will be transformed into an international ‘street-ball’ venue tonight to host the Grand Finale of the Mackeson Smooth Moves 3-on-3 Basketball Championships where one team will be left standing with $1 million.
Pitt Bulls, Jets, Royals, Unknowns, Pacesetters A, Above the Rim, Full Clip and King Street Ballers are the eight teams that advanced to the Super Eight Round in Linden last weekend. The Final Four and Grand Finale will follow that deciding round tonight.
Thanks to the Mackeson Smooth Moves event, which represented the biggest single purse on offer in any version of the game in Guyana, many communities in the preliminary rounds in New Amsterdam, Bartica and Albouystown, were enhanced through sport.
Kaieteur Sport cannot offer you match-ups in this preview since the teams will be placed in a bag where the captains will then pull to know who plays who. However, what we can say is that the eight teams are all two steps away from cashing on a whopping ‘milli’.
During the intense rounds tonight, Ansa McAl will be surely bringing the vibes with promotions and giveaways aimed at getting the crowd involved. Entrance is free with the curtains coming to close with a massive after party with several artistes in the house.
Berbice-based, Full Clips will be a team to watch after they sent Kester Gomes and his Knights team packing in Linden. King Street Ballers edged through to the Grand Finale with a nail-biting win against Assassins and that will do a whole lot for their confidence.
Albouystown-based, Above the Rim proved that their pre-game hype and swagger was not mere talk with an impressive win, comfortably passing the 21-point cap. The team will be fetching the entire ‘ghetto’ out tonight to support them in their quest for glory.
Orin Rose and his Unknowns unit will be looking to entertain the large and enthused crowd that is expected tonight to support their favourite team. Victory Valley Royals is arguably the most favoured Linden team still in the hunt and we all know by now the kind of support Linden gives to their sport teams. It will be no different in the Grand Finale.
Jets with Kevin ‘Two Feet’ Joseph, Shane Webster and Leonard Caleb are among the popular units still in the reckoning from Linden too, but it is unlikely that they will outdo Pacesetters ‘A’, who boast Travis Burnett, Stephan Gillis, Royston Silland and Naylon Loncke.
Pacesetters ‘A’ is perhaps the overall favourite to win the tournament, but we cannot count out Pitbulls, another team that has eased to this round with Shelroy Thomas, Ryan Gullen and their ‘big man’ Rudy James getting the job done every time.
