to score a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) triumph and grab the Men’s Doubles crown as the curtains came down in this year’s Trophy Stall Doubles Tennis Tournament last evening, at the Pegasus Hotel Hardcourts.
The combination of Chand / Lopes playing a consistent game easily wrapped up the opening stanza and seemed to be heading for a second set defeat, before producing some exciting tennis to recover from a 0-3 deficit to take the contest into a tie-breaker, before claiming the title.
Also in winners’ row was, Ladies Doubles, the mother and daughter pair of Shelly and Nicola Ramdyhan disposed of Aruna Ramrattan / Shawna Gentle 6-1, 6-4.
In the Mixed doubles division, Leyland Leacock / Aruna Ramrattan beat Phillip Squires / Krystal Sukra 6-2, 2-6, 11-9 in a super tie-break, while in the Men’s Doubles, Godfrey Lowden / Omar Persaud were straight sets winners over Maxie Fox / Sakae Yamada 6-4, 6-2.
Meanwhile, play in the Pegasus Hotel Open Championships begins today, at the Hotel Hardcourts, starting from 18:30 hrs.
Guyana Lawn Tennis Association (GLTA) official Duane Lopes, who spoke at the presentation ceremony extended thanks on behalf of the entity to Trophy Stall and the Management and Staff of Pegasus for their continued support for the sport and more directly the GLTA.
