A 65-year old woman from Stanleytown, Berbice lost her right hand following a mauling by two dogs at her home on Tuesday midday.
The woman whose name was given as Wilem Saul, had her hand amputated by doctors at the Georgetown Public Hospital due to the severe damage it sustained as a result of the attack.
She has also suffered serious injury to her head. Half her scalp was missing.
The woman could not fully relate her experience when this newspaper visited her in hospital yesterday, except to say that two dog
s had attacked her.
This newspaper understands that Saul who resides at the home of a close relative is not familiar with the dogs there.
A source in Berbice told this newspaper that Saul had ventured downstairs into the yard unaware that the dogs were loose.
She was immediately set upon and despite her screams it took a while before anyone came to her assistance. By then she had been severely mauled.
She was rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital from where she was transferred to the city.
