The day has finally arrived and its Rodeo time again. A jam packed crowd is expected to throng
to the Rising Sun Turf Club, Arima Park Arena West Coast Berbice where all roads are expected to lead.
All the Vaqueros and other participants from overseas and other parts of Guyana including the far flung areas have all arrived for what is expected to be an exhilarating day of action on the Coast. Over the past week the organisers used the opportunity to formalized preparations and made sure every system is in place. The venue was also tested with a few trial runs using mostly local cowboys and according to Coordinator and President of the Rising Sun Rodeo Committee Inshanally Habibulla everything is in place.
The venue has been given a sprucing up with more rails added and the old ones replaced. The ground has also been graded and prepared for today’s action. The number of participants has increased significantly with the overseas contingent from Brazil, Suriname and Venezuela along with those from the far flung areas including Lethem, the Rupununi Savannahs and the Corentyne River being involved in exercises on the Rising Sun Turf during the week. According to information, Fazal Habibulla and his West Berbice Posse, which makes up the bulk of the local brigade from the Abary, Mahaica and Mahaicony River area, were also in action and are well prepared to defend their turf.
Over 12 different activities in the various categories are slated to be staged and millions of dollars in prizes including cash, trophies and other memorabilia’s are up for grabs.
Among the activities listed to be held are steer roping, bare back bronco for males and females. Male and female barrel race, wild cow milking, calf roping, wild bull riding, Saddle bronco and the popular Banks DIH ‘Banks Beer’ Tug o War events.
The day’s action is set to kick off at 11:00 hrs.
Over $1M in cash, trophies and other incentives will be up for grabs in the one-day event. A number of business entities have come on board to help sponsor the event. Among them are Banks DIH Limited, Digicel, Neal and Massy Guyana Limited, Muneshwar and Company, Mohammed sheriff cattle Ranch and Racing Stables, Guyana School of Agriculture, A.K Rahim Lumber yards, Hablaw’s Meat Centre, Abary cattle ranch, Chester Fry Chicken of Bush Lot West Coast Berbice, Jumbo Jet Establishment, John Fernandes Limited, Colin Elcock Racing stable and Delmur Shipping Company, Chris Jagdeo and Sons, Asrafalli (Papy) Racing stable and Supermarket.
The various winners and other outstanding performers will be presented with monetary awards trophies and other attractive prizes.
