A panicking PPP resorts to its usual propaganda of divisiveness

The seemingly endless column of citizens wearing the green of the APNU, on Nomination Day, Thursday 27 October, 2011, evidently sent the PPP propagandists into a frenzy of fear.
As all Guyanese have now come to expect, their instinctive reaction has been to retreat into their well worn tactic of seeking to cast the Opposition as the enemy of their traditional supporters.
The people will no longer be fooled!
On Thursday 27 October, 2011, despite the massive show of support along the route from Square of the Revolution, West along Brickdam, North along Camp Street and West along Regent Street to City Hall. There was not a single disturbance or threat to people or property throughout the procession.
Instead, all along the route spectators, whether in their place of work, business of home simply joyfully cheered on and encouraged the APNU supporters. There was music, drumming, chanting and unmistakable exuberance. All the stores on Regent Street remained open, with owners and workers out on the pavements.
There is no doubt that Guyanese have grown tired of the failures that have characterized 19 years of the PPP in office: widespread theft of the resources of the People of Guyana; a breakdown of public security; the rising influence of the narco-barons on the state: violent and other forms of criminality; the blatant trampling on the rule-of-law; substandard delivery of public works contracts; rising levels of domestic violence; the visible evidence of poverty and destitution; etc. The message of Nomination Day 2011 to the PPP is clear; the people of Guyana will Make The Change on 28 November, 2011 by voting for an APNU-led Government of National Unity.
It was, therefore, not surprising to hear the ranting and raving of Robert Persaud and the PPP propagandists, shamelessly using the state-owned media as the propaganda arms of the PPP, to claim that the green wave of the masses of Guyanese working people, that flowed freely through the streets of Georgetown, on its way to present the APNU Presidential and Prime Ministerial Candidates and the rest of the APNU Candidates’ lists to City Hall, were “thugs” and “hooligans”.
It seems that freight and shock sent the spin doctors at Freedom House into a state of hallucination for only they saw the exuberant mass of APNU supporters attacking the police and jumping over the gate of City Hall. How sad that they have resorted to lies and the vilification of our citizens.
The PPP propagandists and Robert Persaud owe the citizens of Georgetown, thousands of them young people, many of them with babies in their arms, an immediate apology.
True, the APNU supporters did not behave like the docile domestic servants the PPP feeds, pays and transports to their rallies. The men, women and children who assembled at Square of the Revolution came there of their own free will, full of purpose and enthusiasm.
But were it only a matter of sour grapes, the insults of Robert Persaud and the other Ramotar handlers could be ignored and put down to embarrassment and envy. However, APNU is concerned at what appears to be a more sinister motive–to paint APNU supporters as a threat to social order and especially a threat to the Indian community.
In their panic, Robert Persaud and his not so merry band of propagandists are attempting to turn their defeat into a victory: a victory for divisiveness and scare-mongering.
We wish to warn the PPP dirty tricks department and the propagandists that APNU will exercise maximum vigilance to ensure that in pursuit of this well-worn PPP tactic, the desperate plots of the provocateurs and mercenaries will be exposed and defeated.
APNU will not be deflected from its purpose to unite all the people of Guyana who yearn for a better future under an APNU-led Government of National Unity.
MAKE THE CHANGE, VOTE APNU!
