ECB U-17 KO 50 over tourney…Persaud, Gonsalves hit 50s as Leguan & South E’bo win; Pomeroon DQ
Leguan and South Essequibo recorded victories when the Essequibo Cricket Board (ECB) knock-out Under-17 50-over cricket competition bowled off recently with several matches.
At Lima, Leguan overcame North Essequibo by 4 wickets. North took first strike and were bowled out for 88 in 17.1 overs. Keisha Rooplall 21 and Siddique Mohamed 18 were the batsmen that offered resistance; Christopher Mc Cordy and Sunil Persaud taking two wickets each.
Persaud then returned to slam 51 (6×4 3×6) while Mc Cordy also showed his all-round ability by scoring 21 as Leguan won the game in 15.4 overs ending on 90-6. Haiman Beharry and Kevin Warner picked up two wickets each for North.
At Golden Fleece, South Essequibo defeated Bartica by 98 runs.
Essequibo Under-19 opener Mark Gonsalves led with a fine 56 while Raj Parbattie 40, Andy Dass 24 and Wazim Karoon 21 not out guided South to 189-6 in a match which was reduced to 37 overs due to rain.
C. Hussain captured 4-38 for Bartica who were routed for 91 in 21 overs. W. Harry made 22 and G. Mc Leannon contributed 19; Albert Ramnauth bagged 4-13 and Rajendra Surabjeet 3-19 for the winners.
At Devonshire Castle, Pomeroon was disqualified after fielding two overage players against Wakenaam. Wakenaam however batted first and on a track with lots of moisture caused by early morning rain were bowled out for 50 in 11 overs.
Latchman Dindyal 20 and National Under-15 player Kemo Paul 11 were the batsmen that got into double figures as Samuel Benjamin did the damaged with 6-15. Pomeroon responded with 51-5 in 14 overs with extra contributing 20. Paul was the pick of the bowlers for Wakenaam with 3-9.
On Wednesday last at Devonshire Castle rain put an end to the contest between East Bank Essequibo and Central Essequibo. Central were 51-3 in 6 overs after taking first turn at the crease. Christopher Bacchus 16 and Deolall Persaud 10 were the batsmen at the wicket when the elements above intervened.
At Golden Fleece rain also had the final say in the game between Wakenaam and Leguan. Leguan batting first were 58-7 in 15 overs. Sunil Persaud made 17; Jumal Hartman picked up 2-10 with each for Alex Stephen and Lakram Gobin. (Zaheer Mohamed)
