The Ministry of Public Works and Communication is warning residents living in low-lying areas to take the necessary precautions during this period of spring tides which started Monday and are expected to be at their highest tomorrow.
Chief Sea and River Defence Officer, Geoffrey Vaughn, according to a government statement, said that tides over three metres in height are expected.
Residents in Plastic City, Vreed-en-Hoop, Leguan and Wakenaam in Region Three and Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, Region Six, especially, are being asked to take the necessary precautions with respect to the extraordinary tides.
The highest tide is expected tomorrow and could be as high as 3.31 metres.
Vaughn also said residents need to take note of possible flooding.
He explained that due to the heavy rains which have been affecting most areas, run-off from the various drainage basins will be discharged into the rivers resulting in increased water levels.
This has the potential to cause overtopping and flooding, he said.
