Two Berbician cyclists, top National Junior champion Neil Reece and female rider Maricia Dick will spearhead the Guyanese Cycling contingent that will leave the shores on Wednesday to represent Guyana in the Inter Guiana Games Cycling Competition billed for Suriname from October 19 – 23.
18 yr old Reece, a final year student at the New Amsterdam Technical Institute (NATI), will be participating in both the Road Race and Time trial. Riding since age 12, this is his second year at the Inter Guiana Games competition. When the competition was held last year in Guyana, Reece placed second and will be looking to go one better this year and bring back glory to his home land. Reece who is sponsored by the A. Ally and Sons business entity has ridden in the neighbouring republic already.
Training partner Maricia Dick is a student of the New Amsterdam Multilateral School and although still at school she has chalked up a number of achievements already among them being crowned national women’s champion.
Dick will also be participating in both the Road Race and time Trials. She has been riding for about four years now and this is her third year participating in the Inter Guiana Games. In her first outing in 2009 she came out as champion female rider. Last Year she placed second and will be looking to retake the top podium position once again.
Both cyclist have been busy training under the watchful eyes of coach Randolph Roberts and has expressed confidence that they will bring the bacon home. They will both be representing The New Amsterdam Canje district 15 at the upcoming National Athletics and Cycling Championships.
