The West Indies Cricket Board today announced another exciting feature of the Regional Super50. Eight cricket clubs in Guyana will pocket big bucks from the Super50 Tournament.
Each of the eight clubs will be paired with a team participating in the tournament and for every victory registered by that team the club will receive GY$100,000 (US$500) from the WICB.
Even more, every six hit and every wicket taken via the ‘bowled’ route will see the club receiving GY$10,000.
The eight clubs, as nominated by the Guyana Cricket Board, are: Bay Rock Sports Club, Blairmont Community Centre, Enterprise Cricket Club, Gandhi Youth Organization, McGill Cricket Club, Skeldon Cricket Club, South Essequibo Cricket Club, Zeeburg Cricket Club
“We hope it rains sixes and scattered stumps in the Super50 so that the clubs can receive as much cash as possible to aid with their development programmes,” WICB Corporate Communications Officer Imran Khan said.
The initiative is part of the overall development drive in which the WICB has engaged in a number of diversified activities to assist clubs all across the Caribbean in their operations.
“The Super Club Assistance Programmes twins very nicely with performance on the field and we hope that the players will be motivated to win for their teams but also for clubs to win significant cash prizes,” Khan added.
“We know that the club members and the fans will be watching with keen interest for every six and every bowled wicket to add up the monies to go to the respective clubs,” Khan surmised.
If a team plays unbeaten throughout the tournament the partner club will claim as much as GY$500,000 (US$2500)
The initiative will continue in future editions of the Super50 when local clubs in the host venue will be identified for similar benefits.
Participating teams: Barbados, Combined Campuses and Colleges, Jamaica, Guyana, Leeward Islands, Sagicor HPC, Trinidad and Tobago, Windward Islands.
The clubs will be paired with the teams at a draw to take place during the WICB Board of Directors meeting over the weekend in St Lucia.
The Regional Super50 bowls off in Guyana on October 19th and the final is slated for October 29th. The semi-finals and final will be broadcast live on ESPN.
