-    But cultural extravaganza still on

The Ghanaian group that was scheduled to perform this weekend at functions hosted by the government has missed its flight, Minister of Culture, Dr Frank Anthony, announced yesterday.
As a result, the group will now be coming to Guyana some time in December, Dr Anthony stated.
The performances by the group were expected to be the highlight of today’s mega concert and exhibition at the National Stadium in commemoration of the United Nations International Year of People of African Descent (IYPAD).
However, artistes from Suriname are still listed on the programme and will be joined by the line-up of local artistes.
African traditional groups from each of the 10 administrative regions will come together and create their own village tent in which they will put on show the unique cultural heritage of each region with regard to art, craft, clothing and food.
Each village will also feature its individual music performance. The concert will start at 8:00pm.
Among the local artistes billed to perform are Natural Black, the Yoruba Singers, Charmaine Blackman, and the Ex Factor dance group. The event is free of cost.
