Food for the Poor Incorporated (FFP) one of Guyana’s leading non-governmental organization and social service provider recently teamed up with another of Guyana’s leading charity organization and social service provider the St Francis Community Developers (SFCD).
The union between the two led to the distribution of millions of dollars worth of items to a number of organizations and collaborating partners in Berbice.
The collaborating agencies which include clubs, churches, schools, developmental and community centers among others are tasked with providing various benefits to the community in which they operate.
Executive Director of Food for the Poor, Leon Davis recently journeyed to Berbice and visited a number of the organizations. He expressed his pleasure and satisfaction at what he saw.
He said that he was confident that the assistance being given by his organization is being used for the intended purposes.
Mr. Davis congratulated the recipients for their excellent work and for coming on board to partner with Food For the Poor as the organisation seeks to assist the poor. He also stated that they are venturing into new areas and not just donation and food.
All the recipients thanked Mr. Davis and his Food for The Poor organization for their kindness and love for helping them to be able to assist the less fortunate in the various communities.
However, before the distribution of the multimillion dollar package which was done at the SFCD head office at Rose Hall Town, Mr. Davis along with Alex Foster, President of SFCD, held an extensive meeting with the representatives of the various organizations, agencies and collaborative partners on strategies and ways and benefits of doing community development.
Among the organizations that benefited were The Mibicuri Community Developers; Play school and skills training Centre in Black Bush Polder, which received a number of Computers and Sewing Machines; and the Good Samaritan Home in Stanleytown, New Amsterdam.
The items donated include a number of table model gas stoves, centre tables, mattresses, bedside cupboards and wardrobes among other things.
The Amerindian students hostels on the Upper Corentyne that caters for students from Orealla, Siparuta and other Riverain areas up the Corentyne River and the New Amsterdam Hostel that caters for students from the Berbice Rivers was also the recipient of a number of items that included mattresses, cupboards, kitchen sets, Sofas, Wardrobes, Television sets, Curtains and bedside cupboards among other things.
The All Saints Presbyterian Community Development Centre in New Amsterdam recently received some computers and upgraded its play school and skills training Centre in its continued expansion drive.
On This occasion it received 12 sewing machines, 30 chairs, over six dozens pairs of footwear and gas stoves among other things.
All the Skills Training Centers and play schools in East Berbice affiliated to The St Francis Community Developers received mats, rugs, baby bottles, Shampoos among other things.
The ministry of Education was also the beneficiary of a number of books, recorders for their musical programmes, dry eraser boards among other items.
The newly formed Edinburgh Community Centre on the East Bank of Berbice received six sewing Machines.
A Corentyne resident, Ramwattie Kumar, whose house was recently destroyed by a fire leaving her and her two daughters homeless, was the recipient of a table model gas stove, clothing, cupboards, footwear; food stuffs kitchen utensils and mattresses among things.
Food for the Poor Guyana Inc is celebrating its 20 anniversary as a non government organization and Social service provider.
St. Francis Community Developers is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
