President of the Guyana Draughts Association (GDA), Jairam would lead a team of competent players to Suriname to match wits with their Dutch counterparts in a two days competition slated for Saturday October 1 and Sunday 2.
Those accompanying their President are Carlton Simon, Mark Braithwaite, Ulric Braithwaite, Khemraj Pooranmall, Wayne Forde and Balleram Ramdeen.
The tournament, a cooperative effort of JOFEWA, Suriname’s official draughts association and the Foundation Caribbean Centre was organized by President of the local Association, Jairam in collaboration with local Director of Sports, Neil Kumar and President of the Caribbean Centre in Paramaribo Suriname, James Ramlall.
The tournament marks the first international tournament in which local players would compete using the hundred square boards and activities would be staged under the aegis of the world body.
Meanwhile, President Jairam is confident that his boys would hold their own against the Surinamese despite the fact that they are devoid of international activity. He said that notwithstanding this setback his players are practicing diligently and are set to deliver the goods.
