The construction of the new ‘Centre Bridge’ at Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara, is now in progress. The project had been stalled for many months and had caused an inconvenience to a majority of residents and businessmen in the area.
Yogeshwar Bhola Construction Services recently landed the award of the contract for the construction of this bridge.
The former structure was demolished by the construction company yesterday.
Since December, this bridge was closed off to vehicular traffic because of its deterioration.
It was the main access bridge to the Ocean View section of the Uitvlugt Village. At one point of time, there were two huge logs placed at both ends of the bridge, as a means of signaling vehicle operators that the bridge was inaccessible and should not be used.
The bridge was previously under the care of the Uitvlugt Sugar Estate. However; some villagers say that the Estate no longer maintains responsibility for the bridge.
