Beacons and Police secured the remaining semi-final spots on Wednesday evening after registering victories over Flamingo and GDF respectively as play in the Milo Under-23 Football Tournament continued, at the Tucville ground.
In the opening encounter between Flamingo and Beacons, the former took the lead through Alpha McPhoy, who netted in the 4th minute of play.
Beacons, however, was able to get the equaliser before the half when Desmond Cotton levelled in the 31st minute. The break saw no change to the score-line despite some attacking football exhibited by both teams.
After the resumption, both sides looked menacing, but stout defending and poor finishing was the order of the night and at the end of regulation time no team managed to take the ascendancy sending the game into overtime.
Michael Henery’s successful effort in the last minute of the first segment of overtime sealed his team’s place in the semi-finals.
In the feature game, Police eliminated their counterparts from the armed forces after beating the GDF on penalty kicks when regulation period failed to separate the 1-1 deadlock.
Action in the competition continues today with semi-final play that features Santos versus Police from 18:00 hrs and that will be followed by the clash between Fruta Conquerors and Beacons from 20:00 hrs.
