The Guyana Red Cross Society (GRCS) yesterday hosted a theater performance and a discussion on the “importance of First Aid. The event was part of the commemoration of “World First Day”.
Businesses were implored to train all employees in this field.
According to guest speaker, Minister of Labour, Manzoor Nadir, the practice of First Aid can give hope and can even save someone’s life.
To portray the importance of First Aid, the members of the GRCS held a stage performance. The act involved three persons employed at a firm, under severe stress when one staff fainted. The others were confused and panicked since they were not sure of the measures that should be taken.
However, the employer who was familiar with First Aid, manage to keep his staff in a stable position until the ambulance arrived.
Ashanta Osborne Moses, the Project Coordinator of HIV and AIDs of the GRCS, presented a brief history of the GRCS. She urged everyone to take a course in First Aid which is being offered by the GRCS.
She also urged drivers to ensure there is a First Aid kit in cars.
Devaughn Lewis, the First Aid Coordinator of the GRCS, who also spoke, noted that the main purpose of the GRCS is to save lives and to prevent further injuries.
According to Lewis, the organization is aiming to have all commercial drivers trained in First Aid practices with new drivers to also be involved.
Further, GRCS is also aiming to have at least one member of households trained in First Aid courses.
