Staff of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat will observe Caribbean Wellness Day with an early morning walk in Georgetown, today.
The second Saturday in September had been ordained Caribbean Wellness Day by the Heads of Government of CARICOM at their groundbreaking Summit on Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) held in 2007 in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.
This year’s observance comes ten days before the historic United Nations (UN) High-Level Meeting on NCDs which will be held at UN Headquarters, New York, USA over two days from September 19. The Caribbean Community was instrumental in promoting the need for such a meeting.
The staff members will be part of the activities organised by the Ministry of Health. Included in the list of activities will be a health fair featuring an aerobic dance workout, cooking demonstrations and information on nutrition. Other Member States have planned similar activities to mark the day.
