– 19 bids for three contracts
Leguan, a Region Three farming island in the Essequibo, has been earmarked for a number of major sea defence works in coming months.
On Tuesday, a total of 19 bids were opened for three contracts that, according to estimates, will cost almost $564M.
Leguan, it has been reported, has been taking a beating from spring tides, with significant losses in crops.
The first tender opened was for the construction of 730 meters of rip-rap sea defence using large stones. This will be done at Louisiana. The Ministry of Public Works is estimating the works to cost $320,044,330 with the five (5) bids opened being:

At Maryville, another section of the sea defence will need repairs. This will entail the building of
210 metres of rip-rap. It is estimated that the works will cost $104,829,170. The eight (8) bids opened on Tuesday were:
