The 2011 Memorex Enterprise sponsored Leslie Amsterdam Memorial Under-17 cricket competition bowled off yesterday in the Ancient County of Berbice.
The competition is held in memory of the late BCB President Leslie Amsterdam A.A, who apart from serving as an Administrator of Berbice and Guyana also represented the County and Country in first class cricket.
Twenty-five (25) clubs are competing, divided into five geographical areas in order to minimize travelling costs. The top teams from each zone will go through to the quarter-finals.
Matches are being played on the one-day two-innings format in the preliminary rounds while the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final will each be two-day matches.
The competition is opened to players born on or after January 1, 1995, the eligibility date for the upcoming Republic Bank Under-17 Inter-zone competition, Inter County Under-17 tournament scheduled for October and the Regional Under-17 tournament fixed for December this year.
Competition got started yesterday in the West Berbice Zone, tomorrow action will bowl off in the other areas.
