A man with a penchant for other people’s bicycles appeared yesterday before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton where he was arraigned on the charges of robbery under arms and larceny, and subsequently jailed for five years.
When Devon Semple made his appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, he heard the allegation that on February 26 at Robb Street, Georgetown, armed with a knife, he robbed Abraham Rambarran of one bicycle worth $60,000.
It was further alleged that on August 13, he stole from Abraham Rambarran, one bicycle worth $20,000.
He was not required to plead to the indictable matters; however, he told the court that he is guilty of all charges.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey told the court that on February 26, Rambarran was riding along Robb Street, when he was confronted by Semple, who was armed with a knife. Harvey said that Rambarran was intimidated, dropped his bicycle, and the assailant picked it up and rode away.
Harvey also informed the court that on August 13, police arrested the defendant based on a similar allegation made against him to which he admitted.
Semple was then sentenced to three years imprisonment for the robbery under arms charge and two years for larceny.
