Twenty-six year-old Vishaul Ramoutar, who is before the court on a fraudulent conversion charge, was yesterday remanded to prison until September 9.
When Ramoutar appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, he heard that between February 1 and February 28, 2009, Ramesh Mahadeo gave him a quantity of goods worth $5M, to sell and return the proceeds, but instead, he fraudulently converted it to his own use and benefit. Ramoutar denied the allegation.
The defendant was represented by Attorney at Law Adrian Thompson who told the court that his client has no previous convictions and that he does not pose any risk of flight. Thompson asked for his client to be granted bail in a reasonable sum.
The Prosecution, however, objected to Ramoutar being granted bail, stating that he had been brought before the court on an arrest warrant, since he was released on station bail and missed several court sessions.
The bail application was subsequently denied.
