Magistrate Hazel Octave Hamilton yesterday remanded to prison a man accused of having illegal drugs in his possession, he denied the allegation against him. The accused is expected to return to court on October 5.
The charge against Walter Subryan states that on August 14, in Georgetown, he had in his possession 5 grams of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. The accused was unrepresented and made an application for bail.
The prosecution objected to bail citing that no special circumstances were presented to the court and requested that the accused be remanded to prison. Bail was denied.
Also appearing before Magistrate Octave-Hamilton on a drug charge was 24-year-old Tracy Hunte.
The accused also denied the charge when it was read to her.
When Hunte, of Sunflower Close, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, made her appearance, she heard that the police have alleged that on August 14, at Brickdam, she had in her possession five grams of cannabis.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey objected to the defendant being granted bail stating that she was taking meals into the Brickdam police station, the food was searched and the substance was found.
Bail was set at $60,000 and Hunte is expected to make her next court appearance on October 25.
