Biggest purses, most horses entered, larger starting gates to accommodate 16 horses

The organizers of the Fifth Annual Guyana Cup 2011 $20M horserace meet, which is slated for next Sunday August 21 at the Port Mourant Turf Club, are leaving nothing to chance as they continue to plow millions of dollars in the mega one day event, which is touted as the biggest one day event for the August holidays.
Organized by one of Guyana’s leading horseracing Establishments, the Jumbo Jet Auto Sales and racing stables, with support from other business entities including Banks DIH Limited and Digicel among others, massive rehabilitation works has been undertaken at the venue, with the main Grand stand being rehabilitated and refurbish to cater for the thousands of spectators who are expected to throng the venue and for the absolute comfort of the viewing public.
The starting gate which usually caters for 12 horses is being remodeled and will have four new slots and will now cater for 16 starters another first in Guyana. Over 100 stables are now available at the venue with over 30 new ones being built or refurbished to accommodate the horses.
11 races are carded for the day which also makes it the most races for a day and with such mammoth investments and with all the winners guaranteed a sizable purse there is no wonder almost all the entries are filling up at a rapid pace.
The A class event on top of the list has an almost full box which reads Sabrina’s Princess, Champtress , Grande Roja, Zelik, Miss Orientate, King Maker, Pinch de Cash, Fairy Landing, Prince Charming, The Message ,Marathon Man, Who’s on the Case, Donut Prince, Home Bush Baby and Stormy Flame. The event has $4M at stake in cash and prizes with the winner taking home the $2M and the Guyana Cup over 1800M.
Better than Gold leads the entries in the Co-feature 3 yr old event for horses Bred and Born in Guyana and the West Indies for the $1.5M top money over 1500M. Others in the line-up are Bridle, Stone Corner, Gold Planted, Northern Dancer, Swinging Envy, Technology, Celebrating Love, Big Impact and Captain Crook.
The West Indies Bred two year old horses include Serenity, Big Red, Time have change, Red Cloud, Windy War, Settle in Seattle, Princess Haya, Come dance with me, Rosetta and Flying in the Park for the $1,000,000 plus trophy in the1000M event.
The E class and lower 1500M event will see the winner racing away with the $800,000 top prize and trophy over 1500 meters. Set to go are Night Crescendo, Tropical Passion, Jen’s Pride, Majestic, Delmar Gold and Home Bush Baby.
The animals in the F class race with winnings tagged at $700,000 and trophy over 1000M will see the likes of Dubai Duchess, Technology, Mamzelle, Tropical Passion, Top of the line and Appealing Harvest.
All the top Three year old runners bred and born in Guyana have so far entered to continue their battle for supremacy with Super Cat, Wicked Intention, Princess Renuka and Apostle leading the charge for the 600,000 and trophy over 1200M.
The G & Lower 1000M has the likes of Gabriel’s Gold, Bob’s Fortune, Maracas Star, Megan’s Choice, Prado Gold, Zelona, Ginger Bread, Celebration Time and Mamzelle running for the $500,000 and trophy.
The two year old event for Guyana bred horses with $500,000 being the winners’ money has a lineup that includes I want Revenge, Third world, Baby Flyer Speed Girl and Blessing over 1000M.
The H& Lower 1200M race winning purse is $400,000 and a trophy with Quincy, Prospector’s Pride, Royal Champion, Five Star General, and Finishing Touch among those running.

There is $150,000 plus trophy for the winner of the ‘I’ & Lower maiden event over 1200M and so far the top contenders are Kevin, Infinity and J.D. Junior
The top Jockey along with the runner up, the top stable and Champion trainer will all be presented with accolades compliments of West Indian Sports Complex. Entries are still open and will be closed on Tuesday August 16 at the Bush Lot Office, West Coast, Berbice of Jumbo Jet Auto Sales.
