Today from 8.00am on the Melanie Playfield, the Mark Sutton Foundation will stage the 2nd Anniversary of the Mark Sutton Memorial Knockout Football competition for under-13 and senior teams not affiliated to the East Coast Demerara Football Association.
These competitions are sponsored by the Mark Sutton family, businessmen Kerwin London and Michael West.
The under-13 competition will be played in group knockout matches with the winning teams being awarded trophies and a winner take prize of $5,000. A trophy will also be offered to the most valuable under-13 player in the competition.
The six teams participating in the competition are BV, Buxton, Bareroot, Paradise Housing, Bachelors Adventure and Melanie Damishana. Matches will be of 30 minutes duration.
Meanwhile, the seniors competition gets underway at 12.00 noon, so far 12 teams have registered to participate in the competition, those teams are defending champions Melanie Lions, North Star, Paradise Housing Scheme, Trooper XI, Paradise Strikers, Western United, Miami Massive, Bareroot, Enterprise, Bachelors Adventure, Philbert Moffat XI and Dwight Peters Xl.
The senior teams will compete for trophies and a winner take prize of $40,000.
Proceeds of the competition will go towards providing school equipment for under privileged footballers participating in the under-13 category of the competition.
