The Caribbean Airlines Limited plane that crashed at Guyana’s main port of entry, Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), on July 30, was yesterday removed at around 3:00 am from its wreckage site and stored in CJIA’s old GA 2000 hanger.
This is according to Minister of Transport and Hydraulics, Robeson Benn.
The operation was carried out by a team of engineers of the Caribbean Airlines Limited and the Ministry of Public Works and Communications.
Minister Benn emphasized that the airport’s 7,448-ft runway is once again fully operational as the crash site was occupying about 500-ft.
Other works such as repairing the fence and tidying the crash site will be done shortly, he stated.
The overseas inspectors including eight US aviation experts, Civil Aviation Inspectors from Trinidad and Tobago and two inspectors from Suriname all left Guyana over a week ago.
On Saturday, July 30 around 01:32 hrs Caribbean Airlines Limited plane crashed with 157 passengers and six crew members. There were no fatalities and only two persons were seriously injured, including a man who has subsequently lost one of his legs.
