Regional Women’s cricket in Barbados
On the same day that Trinidad and Tobago beat their Guyanese counterparts in the Regional under-19 One-Day tournament in Guyana, the girls from Carnival Country defeated Guyana by six wickets in the second round of the regional Womens’ cricket tournament in Barbados yesterday.
After claiming just a point from their washed out first round game against Grenada, Guyana will need to beat the Jamaicans in their next match to stay in the hunt for a semi-final place.
In yesterday’s match Guyana made 102 all out in 42.5 overs despite good starts from West Indies batters Shermaine Campbell (30) and June Ogle-Thomas (22). Yolande Parker (11) was the other Guyanese to reach double figures as West Indies off-spinner Anisa Mohammed took 3-9. Her twin sister Alisa Mohammed captured 2-3 and Gaitri Seetahal 2-16 for the Trini ladies.
Trinidad & Tobago reached 105-4 off 24.1 overs in reply as Amanda Samaroo (36), West Indies Skipper Merissa Aguillera (23) and Stacy Ann King 15 not out, leading the way. West Indies pacer Erva Giddings grabbed 2-17, Campbell 2-29 in a losing effort for the South American girls.
