Hearts of Oak Masters FC “teach them Young” camp progressing smoothly
The 12th Annual Hearts of Oak Masters Football Club “teach them Young” football summer camp, which has been expanded this year to include the Corriverton links football club, is progressing smoothly with a good turnout at both venues, that is according to words from coordinators Neil ‘Grizzly’ Humphrey at New Amsterdam and Michael De Souza at Corriverton. The New Amsterdam camp is being held at the Scot Church ground, Princess Elizabeth Road New Amsterdam, while the Corentyne lads are having their sessions at the Corriverton ground.
The camps which began on Monday July 18 are expected to conclude on Friday August 19. It is being held five days weekly from Monday-Friday from 09:00hrs -13:00 hrs.
The youths are being taught the finer points of the game which includes both theory and practical.
The practical sessions entails showing them the various ways in receiving, passing, shooting, taking, dribbling, Goalkeeping and throwing the football among other points. The youths are also expected to be schooled in discipline, etiquette, good table manners and general education with Physical fitness also expected to be an integral part of the sessions.
The main aim of the programme is to have the youths better able to appreciate the rules and regulation of the game, improve their knowledge and skills and understand general sportsmanship and have a better human relationship with others and improve their discipline generally.
At the end of the camps the youths will be involved in exchange visits and will be presented with certificates and other memorabilia while the more outstanding players will be selected to participate in a tour to the either Georgetown or the Corentyne where they will participate in a number of goodwill games.
