As part of their preparations for this weekend’s two-day Jam Zone Masters’ Cup t20 cricket competition
at the Guyana National Stadium, the teams involved have been participating in warm-up matches before the semi-finals on Friday.
On Saturday, Gizmos & Gadgets Georgetown Pitbulls beat Buxton by 52 runs in Buxton as West Indies all-rounder Chris Barnwell hit four fours and five sixes in an entertaining 41-ball 79.
Guyana Wicketkeeper Derwin Christian supported with 25 as the City side made 179-6 off their allotted 20 overs.
Rawle Fredericks (2-21) and David Glen (2-35) were the most successful bowlers for the Buxton line-up which included former Guyana under-19 off-spinner and present National Footballer Clive Andries.
Rawle Meusa took two sixes off National t20 left-arm pacer Andre Stoll as Buxton made an explosive start to their run chase scoring 19 from the first over of their innings.
But Guyana players Steven Jacobs, who shared the new ball with Stoll and finished with 2-23 from his four overs, Jason Heyliger who had 2-23 and Kellon Carmichael who conceded just 11 runs from his three overs, ensured that Buxton were limited to 133-8 off 20 overs.
Fredericks top scored with 25, while Marvin Cato (22) and Meusa (18) contributed in a losing effort for Buxton.
Gizmos & Gadgets Georgetown Pitbulls oppose New Line Cavaliers in the first semi-final from 17:00hrs before Hits and Jams All Stars face the Universal DVD Berbcie Titans from 21:00hrs in the second semi-final.
The third place play-off is fixed for Sunday from 16:00hrs before the teams clash for the $2 million first prize in the Final from 20:00hrs.
