The rapidly decomposing body of 64-year-old Eunice Hubbard was discovered early yesterday morning in a trench at Queenstown, Essequibo Coast. She had been missing for a little less than 48 hours.
Roxanne Hubbard, the dead woman’s daughter, said she last saw her mother on Saturday, while she was visiting her daughter at her Queenstown residence.
The younger Hubbard said that later that evening persons claimed to have seen her mother, accompanied by her reputed husband, traversing a street in the village.
She related that on Sunday, after church, when it was determined that her mother was missing, she and other relatives engaged in a search, but came up empty. It was yesterday morning that her worst fears were confirmed, with the discovery of her mother’s remains by a neighbour.
Roxanne Hubbard said she was able to identify her mother by the clothes she was wearing. The elderly woman’s remains were subsequently retrieved from the trench after detectives had concluded their investigations at the scene.
Although undertakers were present, the men were reluctant to venture into the water to retrieve the corpse. Close family members who had gathered took on the responsibility.
