Arawai Mining sponsors $600,000 1st prize
Cricket lovers and enthusiasts in Bartica are preparing for what is anticipated to be an explosive and entertaining D&C Promotions Twenty20 knock-out cricket competition that will bowl off on Saturday September 3 at the Bartica Community Centre Ground.
Eight teams from the Counties of Demerara, Berbice and Essequibo will be battling for the top prize of $600,000 which has been sponsored by Arawai Mining Company of First Avenue Bartica.
The teams battling in this tournament, which is organised in conjunction with the Bartica Cricket Committee and the Essequibo Cricket Board, are New Line Cavaliers (Demerara), South Essequibo, Bartica Challengers, Wakenaam, Rising Stars (Bartica), East Bank Essequibo, West Super Kings (Berbice) and Central Essequibo.
Chief Executive Officer of Arawai Mining Company Mr. Chunilall Babulall in handing over the cheque to Ms. Andrea Fredericks said that his company had no hesitation in playing an integral role in the second edition of the competition since they were very pleased with the way the competition was organised first time around.
Babulall, an ardent sports lover said that the tournament is a positive development for the community of Bartica and one which allows sportsmen the chance to showcase their skills in way which inspires and gives entertainment to thousands of fans, including young people.
“W are happy with the strides being made by D&C Promotions in brining quality entertainment to this community and we will continue to support such initiatives. We believe that our contribution is just a small way of giving back to the community and we look forward to another exciting competition.”
Ms Fredericks expressed gratitude to Mr. Babulall on behalf of the organisers while assuring him that they are leaving no stones unturned in ensuring that another explosive and quality tournament is played.
This year, D&C Promotions have expanded the pool of teams by inviting a team from Berbice that will add some more depth and quality to the competition.
The opening ceremony is slated for Saturday September 3rd which will be followed by the first two matches which will see New Line Cavaliers of Demerara coming up against South Essequibo; the feature encounter brings together Bartica Challengers and Wakenaam.
Competition will continue of Sunday September 4 with the final two quarterfinal matches, West Super Kings of Berbice plays East Bank Essequibo and Rising Star of Bartica face Central Essequibo.
Scotia Bank, Digicel and Ansa McAl Trading have already come on board and the organisers have expressed their sincere gratitude to them for their commitment. Other entities expected to make contributions are Hopkinson’s Mining, New Modern Hotel & Bar, Ryan & Reuben General Store, MJ’s Supermarket, Dave Scott Service Station, Leon Thomas Mining, L. Ramnauth & Son’s furniture Store, Kamal 2K Cell Phone & Gift Shop, TTS, Mohamed Sheriff Speed Boat Service, Limpy’s Lotto Shop, Sheik Halfrose Mining, Hodia Fast Food, Scarder’s Meat Center, Ricky & Chandanie Mining, Five Star Minerals, Eldorado Minerals, Beverage Depot and Jeff & Sons Investment.
