Good Hope defeated Suddie by 7 wickets to win the final of the Forbes Daniels U-12 10 overs Cricket Competition played on Sunday at Zorg on the Essequibo Coast.
Suddie, who drew the bye to the final, batted first in front of a fair size crowd and scored 103-5 off their allotted overs. Rabindra Deolall was their leading run scorer with 20, while Shamar Bazil grabbed 3-10 and Oralndo Jailall claimed 2-8.
Good Hope in reply knocked off their required target in 9 overs ending on 104-3. They were led by Derick Newman who made 29 and Jailall who hit an unbeaten 27.
Meanwhile in the lone semifinal played, Good Hope overcame Huis t’ Dieren by 133 runs. Good hope took first strike and posted 193-1 in 10 overs. Shane Wong blasted his way to 85 while Arnold Adams assisted with 23. Huis t’ Dieren in response folded for 60 in 10 overs with Roy Shoaib being the only batsman to offer any resistance with 12 as Adams and Wong picked up 3-9 and 2-13 respectively.
Good Hope was given the winning trophy and Buddie received the runner up prize while Wong was voted the competition’s most valuable player.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony Coach Forbes Daniels encouraged the players to stick with game and take it seriously. He also called on the business community to support the game and stressed the need for more cricket to be played. Daniels told Kaieteur sport that anyone who is willing to come on board can contact him on 602 4811.
