Dear Editor,
It was widely reported in the NY and Guyana media that according to NY court documents Ed Ahmad, who was charged with mortgage fraud by the FBI, in 2009 shipped 29 tons of building material to President Jagdeo at State House.
It means then that President Jagdeo imported those items and the public has the right to know if he has been managing a private construction or wholesale/retail business. The private sector, and the GRA, should be particularly interested in whether President Jagdeo paid the requisite Customs Duties and Consumption Tax.
If President Jagdeo did not engage in construction or commerce the public would like to know what became of the materials. We know that the President is currently building his mansion at Spaarendam with material imported from India so it would appear that Ed Ahmad is not his supplier.
We are cognizant of the fact that Ed Ahmad operates a hardware store on the premises of the PPP’s now closed Mirror Newspaper and we are just wondering if the building supplies were sold there.
Regardless of the way the material was disposed of, we would like to know if the Customs Duties and Consumption Taxes were paid.
Malcolm Harripaul
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
