A total of 3,700 house lots were allocated thus far for 2011 and the Ministry of Housing is developing other areas for distribution, says Minister of Housing, Irfaan Ali.
Within another month the Ministry would be allocating 1,200 plots on the West Coast Demerara (WCD), Region Three, Minister Ali stated. He added that 1,000 lots in Zeelugt and 200 lots in Leonora (WCD) would be distributed.
The Minister made those comments yesterday at the Ministry’s One Stop Shop activity held at the National Stadium, Providence. The activity coincided with the Ministry’s three-day Building Exposition that concluded yesterday.
Though the Ministry allocated 400 house lots between Saturday and Sunday which is a small amount as compared to other One Stop Shop activities, the event was giant size with the presence of big entities in the construction industry.
Minister Ali noted that this allocation targeted persons who applied for house lots during 2007 and before. Many persons were offered lots but owing to their preference for the East Bank Demerara location, they waited for the land to be developed, Minister Ali stated.
It was emphasized that there are still many persons awaiting allocation.
He posited that within a week, the tender would be opened for the re-migrant housing project, which would have 1,000 house lots. In addition, the Ministry has commenced clearing 300 acres of land in the Providence area to develop 1,500 new lots.
